The Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor is a non-profit organization that began in 1982 with this mission: TO REDUCE Pet Overpopulation through spay/neuter assistance
TO ADOPT Unwanted homeless pets into quality homes TO PROTECT Animals from neglect, abuse, and abandonment TO ADVOCATE For their welfare through education and direct assistance TO PROMOTE Greater appreciation of human and animal interactions.
Today, these goals are realized at the APS animal shelter on San Juan Island. Abandoned or relinquished dogs and cats are provided with a warm kennel, food, healthcare, and kindness.
Adoptable animals are safe and nurtured until they are matched with a new, responsible home.
Interim care is provided to animals that are lost or running-at-large, an essential service that most communities fund with tax dollars.
The APSFH receives no government funding beyond a nominal portion of dog license fees, despite the fact that stray animals account for roughly 40% of the shelter's revolving population!)
