EDUCATION

1976-1978     Stanford Graduate School of Business, Stanford, California .  MBA June 1978.  Concentration:  accounting and statistics.  Top ten percent of class.  GSB Fellowship recipient.  Research/teaching assistant.

1971-1975     Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts .  AB magna cum laude  in social studies, concentrating in economics and social policy, June 1975.  Phi Beta Kappa.  National Merit Scholar.  Senior honors thesis:  an oral history of Martha’s Vineyard .

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

1985-present Self-employed accountant/tax preparer.  Licensed to practice before the Internal Revenue Service since 1987.  Currently specializing in payroll services, QuickBooks setup and training, and complete accounting services for small businesses.

1993-2004     CFO and co-owner, Computer Place of Friday Harbor, Inc.  Responsible for all accounting functions, including receivables, payables, invoicing, inventory management, & payroll.  Also taught classes in QuickBooks and Quicken.  Sold business June 1, 2004 .

1986-2005     Owner/operator, Animal Inn Boarding Kennel.  Originally performed all tasks.  Later responsibilities were overall management and accounting only.  Sold business October 27, 2005.

1983-1988     Self-employed writer.  Specialized in non-fiction magazine articles.  Publications include Ladies Home Journal, Working Woman, Working Mother, The Los Angeles Times, The San Jose Mercury News  and National Gardening Magazine.

1978-1983     IBM Corporation, General Products Division, San Jose , California .

1982-1983   Manager, Personnel Programs, Santa Teresa Laboratory.  Managed compensation, benefits, personnel systems and personnel records for site of 2000.

1981-1982   Maternity leave.

1980-1981   Assistant to the Vice President of Manufacturing.  Responsibilities included plan monitoring, correspondence preparation and followup, speech writing, interfacing with administrative support, and interfacing with outside contacts.

1979-1980   Department Manager, Card Manufacturing Project.  Managed department which loaded printed circuit boards for IBM products.  Responsibilities included production, quality, budget, safety, security, and administration of personnel policies.

1978-1979   EOP Specialist.  Administered corporate and government equal opportunity programs for site of 8000 employees.  Included management and employee training, program writing and administration, grievance investigation, interface with management, and recruiting.

Summer 1977  Stanford University, Academic Planning Office, Stanford, California .  Summer intern.  Researched and wrote reports for long-range planning forecast.

1976               Urban Systems Research & Engineering, Inc., Cambridge , Massachusetts .  Research Assistant with primary responsibility for field research for economic research projects.

1975               Charles River Associates, Inc., Cambridge , Massachusetts .    Research Assistant with primary responsibility for writing final reports for economic research projects.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

2005-present   AFS Volunteer.  Host parent to Saudi Arabian student 2005-2006; liaison to Chinese student, 2006-2007.
